BizSG and the New AI Support Layer for SMEs: What Changed at the SME Centre Conference
At the 2026 SME Centre Conference on 9 September, Minister of State Low Yen Ling announced BizSG - an AI-powered initiative designed to change how Singapore SMEs access government support.
The centrepiece is an AI-powered grant recommender. Instead of SME owners hunting across multiple agency websites to figure out what support exists, the recommender matches businesses to relevant grants based on who they are and what they do. Discovery flips from manual to automatic.
The Enhanced Leadership Transformation (ELT) programme was refreshed in parallel. SME leaders going through ELT are now paired with dedicated Business Advisors at SME Centres - named individuals who work with the business over time rather than one-off consultations.
Both moves point the same direction: government support is becoming AI-first, proactive, and data-driven.
The divide this creates
Here's what that shift means in practice.
A grant recommender only solves the discovery problem. The moment a match appears, the real work starts: checking eligibility, pulling financial statements, documenting revenue and cost structure, putting together the application.
For SMEs running on digital accounting, that's a short step. The numbers exist, structured, current. Export what's needed, apply, done.
For SMEs still managing books on spreadsheets, every grant match becomes a scramble. Reconstruct the financials. Chase documents. Miss deadlines while the paperwork catches up.
The same divide runs through the ELT refresh. A dedicated Business Advisor is only as useful as the data you bring to the table. Show up with real-time revenue trends and a clear cost structure, and the session is strategy. Show up with guesses, and the advice stays generic.
What SME owners should do
Watch for BizSG's rollout details. When the grant recommender goes live, run your business through it - see what surfaces.
Then look honestly at whether you could act on a match this week. If the answer involves "reconstructing" anything, the bottleneck isn't discovery. It's your books.
OCi System keeps bookkeeping, invoicing, and financial reporting in one platform, current in real time. When the recommender finds your grant, the numbers are already ready.
