GST F5 Return Due 31 July - Is Your Q2 Filing Ready?
The Q2 GST F5 return covers the accounting period from April to June 2026. Both the return and payment are due on 31 July 2026.
The late filing penalty is S$10,000 per return. This isn't a warning letter - it's a penalty that IRAS imposes for missing the deadline, regardless of whether you owe tax or not.
The pattern is predictable. SME owners who haven't reconciled their books during the quarter scramble at the last minute. Estimates replace actuals. Rounded numbers replace precise figures. "Close enough" becomes the filing standard.
But IRAS doesn't accept close enough. Their audit systems cross-reference GST returns against corporate income tax filings. Discrepancies trigger reviews. Reviews can lead to audits.
The businesses that file on time without stress do one thing differently: they reconcile as they go. Each quarter, transactions are categorised and matched. When the deadline arrives, they're submitting what's already done - not starting from scratch.
This is where accounting software earns its keep. When your software handles categorization, reconciliation, and anomaly detection throughout the quarter, the GST filing becomes a straightforward submission. The deadline is just a date on the calendar, not a fire drill.
